Energy & Power Generation
There’s no margin for error when it comes to ICM’s work in the energy and power generation sectors. We support some of the industry’s most critical facilities, delivering upgrades and expansions to everything from established power plants to modern renewable projects, helping ensure we “keep the lights on.” ICM serves as a single-source partner—executing work safely, on schedule and to the highest quality standards—while meeting the demands of live, continuously operating facilities.
Our Energy & Power Generation Expertise
ICM specializes in the delivery of critical energy and power infrastructure, partnering with utility providers and independent power producers to build and modernize facilities that must perform reliably day in and day out. We also bring deep familiarity with federal and state regulatory frameworks, allowing us to anticipate constraints, coordinate complex stakeholders and execute with precision in highly technical environments.
By self-performing through seven union trades, ICM offers a fully integrated, end-to-end delivery model that minimizes handoffs, reduces risk and accelerates schedules—an approach that’s especially vital when working within secure operating facilities where sequencing and coordination are paramount.
Safety and quality are foundational to how we operate. Consistently recognized with AGC CSEA safety awards, ICM maintains an uncompromising safety culture focused on protecting our workforce while meeting the stringent requirements of utility owners and regulatory bodies—regardless of project size or complexity.
ICM is also AISC-certified for both structural steel fabrication and erection and is among a select group of Colorado contractors holding dual certification as a steel erector and building fabricator. This capability supports the heavy structural demands of power generation facilities—reinforcing our ability to safely deliver complex, high-tolerance infrastructure in some of the most demanding environments.
Energy Projects
- Transitioned the Lamar power plant from gas to coal, which was followed by adding an ammonia injection system to make the plant more environmentally friendly per new EPA guidelines. ICM later decommissioned the power plant as part of Colorado’s goal to cut its carbon dioxide emissions 80% by 2030.
- Executed a number of high-impact projects at Xcel Energy’s Comanche Power Plant, including the installation of all foundations and pre-engineered metal buildings for a new air scrubber system on two of the plant’s existing units, the construction of a new concrete wet ash bunker designed to safely contain coal ash water and prevent environmental contamination, and the building of a new auxiliary boiler, which enabled ICM to obtain its ASME “S” stamp for pressure code work.
